Xilinx provides two ways to evaluate the Gigabit Ethernet MAC (GEMAC) core: Simulation Only, and Full System Hardware Evaluation.

• Simulation Only Evaluation allows you to customize the core through a CORE Generator™ customization GUI and generate a UniSim gate-level model for functional simulation.
• A Full System Hardware Evaluation version of the GEMAC core allows you to do everything you can do with the Fully Licensed IP core, including configure place and route, simulate, estimate timing and program a Xilinx FPGA device.

• Xilinx ISE™ v10.1 or higher must be installed.
  • Download this from the Software Updates page if you have not already done so.
  • You must be registered on Xilinx.com to access this service pack.

To perform a Simulation Only Evaluation:

• Create an account on Xilinx.com if you do not already have one.
• Download the ISE v10.1 from the Software Updates page
• You must be registered on Xilinx.com to perform this download.
• If you do not have a Xilinx user ID, click Create an Account to create a user ID.
• Follow the Installation Instructions in the IP Update in Getting Started Guide for this product.
• Invoke the CORE Generator using either of the following two methods:
  • From ISE: Select Projects -> New Source -> IP (Coregen and Architecture Wizard)

From Windows: Select Programs -> Xilinx -> Accessories -> CORE Generator

• To access the core, double-click on the "Communication & Networking" folder in the left hand panel of the CORE Generator GUI, then double-click on the "Ethernet" folder.
• Double-click on the Gigabit Ethernet MAC core to call up the IP customization GUI.

1. Make sure you have satisfied the requirements listed in the Requirements section above.
2. Download ISE v10.1 from the Software Updates page
   • You must be Registered on Xilinx.com to perform this download
   • If you have Not Registered, you will be given the opportunity to do so when you click to download the update.
3. Follow the Installation Instructions in the Getting Started Guide for this product.
4. Request a Full System Hardware Evaluation license. The license will be generated and emailed to you automatically. Install the license as directed by the emailed instructions.
5. Start up the CORE Generator using either of the following two methods:

• From ISE: Select Projects -> New Source -> IP (Coregen and Architecture Wizard)
• From Windows: Select Programs -> Xilinx -> Accessories -> CORE Generator

To access the core:

1. Double-click on the "Communication & Networking" folder in the left hand panel of the CORE Generator GUI, then double-click on the "Ethernet" folder.
2. Double-click on the Gigabit Ethernet MAC core to display the IP customization GUI.
