Virtex-II and Virtex-E devices are not 5V-tolerant. Given this, can these devices be used in a 5V PCI system?
It is not possible to use a Virtex-E or Virtex-II device in a 5V PCI environment and still maintain strict PCI compliance. There is no way to work around this that will enable the use of a Virtex-II or Virtex-E in a 5V environment while maintaining PCI compliance.
However, if you do not need to maintain PCI compliance, it may be possible to use a bus switch to interface the Virtex-II or Virtex-E device to the 5V PCI bus. The resulting design is not PCI-compliant. Therefore, Xilinx cannot and will not guarantee that this solution will work for you, especially in an open system that expects add-in cards to be fully compliant.
