General Description: When iMPACT 5.2i first establishes a connection to the programming cable on some Windows XP machines, the software immediately fails to establish the cable connection, or the connection intermittently fails during attempted operations. The following messages are reported:
"Checking cable driver. Driver windrvr.sys version = 18.104.22.168. LPT base address = 0378h. ECP hardware is detected. Cable connection established. Connecting to cable (Parallel Port - LPT1) in ECP mode. Checking cable driver. Cable connection failed."
This connection failure can be caused by a parallel port printer polling operation performed by some Windows XP PCs. This operation interrupts iMPACT's parallel cable communications.
BIOS problems occur on DELL laptops docked on the DELL C/Port-II Advanced Port Replicator that cause ECP mode parallel port communication to fail. DELL has not been able to provide a resolution to enable ECP mode communications through the C/Port-II Advanced Port Replicator.
To work around this issue, you can either undock the laptop or set the following environment variable to completely disable the ECP mode communications: XIL_IMPACT_ENV_LPT_COMPATIBILITY_MODE=true
