The Project Navigator GUI crashes when I try to generate a CPLD HTML fitter report.
This problem can be caused by using an unsupported version of the Java Runtime Engine (JRE). The version of Java that works with 8.1i through 9.2i is Version 5 (v1.5.x).
ISE 8.1i through 9.1i crashes.
ISE 9.2i generates the following error:
"ERROR:ProjectMgmt - TOE: ITclInterp::ExecuteCmd gave Tcl result 'An exception took place while calling GuiI::TclWrapIEmbedBrowser::BrowseUrlSameWindow '."
You can work around this issue using one of the following:
Generate Fitter Report in ASCII Text Instead of HTML Format
To do this in ISE, select Edit -> Preference and select "Text" for the Fitter Report format.
Use HTML View (Not Using ASCII Text Report)
Check what version of Java is currently running on your system using the command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd) and entering:
Result from command window:
java version "1.5.x"
The older or newer versions were not tested with ISE and might cause issues.
If you are using a newer version (i.e., 1.6.x), you can uninstall Java, and download Java JRE 1.5.xx from (this should be included in their free downloads):
If you have the correct version of JRE, and you are still experiencing issues, you can check whether your reports are Embedded or External/System. Check this using Edit -> Preferences. Under "Floorplan Editor" select "HTML Browser" as the Category. On the right, you should see the combo box for your HTML Browser.
If you have External/System chosen, you can choose Embedded and this should remove your error.
If you want External/System chosen, then you must change your system variables to:
In ISE Design Suite 14.x, this issue has been seen on Linux operating systems when the HTML Fitter report option was selected. In these cases, the work-around was to optionally select the Text Fitter report for viewing.
