Design Advisory for XPS - Clean tool in XPS might remove workspace and user source files

During the Clean Hardware and Clean All Generated Files processes in XPS, the user software source files will also be permanently deleted if they reside under the SDK directory.

The Clean Hardware and Clean All Generated Files processes within the XPS tool changed in version 13.4 of the ISE Design Suite release to also delete the generated SDK directory, since it contains hardware-related files such as system.xml.

However, many users also store their workspace in the SDK directory as this was the default location for sdk workspaces in previous releases, which include user source files. During the aforementioned processes, the SDK directory is deleted, which might contain the user workspace; this could also contain the user's ".c", ".h", and other source files.

To work around this issue, create the workspace in an area outside of the SDK directory.

To move an existing workspace, copy the workspace to a new location outside of the SDK directory.

Then, within SDK, select File -> Switch workspace and point to your new workspace.

NOTE: Hardware files will not be deleted from the workspace during the clean if it does not exist in the SDK folder; if the workspace already exists outside of the SDK directory, no files will be affected.

The Clean processes are scheduled to be revised in version 14.1 of the software.
